Burial

As it has been noted, Fr. Daniel received numerous threats from people who wanted him to stop his mission. However, preaching the God's Word was more important for him than safety. He was murdered when performing his clerical duties wearing his stole and a cross on his chest.

On Friday night, November 20, 2009, the memorial service has been held at the St. Thomas parish, where the friends and relatives of the martyr were present as well as members of his missionary school and local residents.

On Monday Moscow said a last goodbye to the deceased Father Daniel. The funeral service was held at the Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Yasenevo, where Daniel's father served as a priest. The service was held by Bishop Arseny (Epifanov). Hundreds of Orthodox came to say farewell to the priest.

About one hundred of clergy gathered in the temple, in white clothes, holding burning candles. Among the white robes were Fr. Daniel's relatives dressed in the black of mourning. After the service Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia served a Litia at the coffin and spoke about the death of Father Daniel Sysoev.

After the three-hour service the procession moved towards the Kuntsevo cemetery.

Father Daniel is buried at the church of Holy Mandylion graveyard in Kuntsevo, Moscow. The 40th day after his death was his name day, the day of holy Prophet Daniel (December 30)
